Do You Recognize These Habits Of Highly Successful Women In Yourself?

What defines being a successful woman? What does it take to be successful? Some may say being successful means you have a nice car, big house, branded bags, a walk-in closet full of clothes and can travel the globe by private plane or cruise on a yacht. Others may say, they have a healthy home, wonderful children, a happy marriage and a good job. So how do you go about finding out what the habits of highly successful women are?

My definition of success will differ from yours. Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose which comprises many things.

We might agree though that there are common traits or habits of highly successful women. Women we look up to, strive to be like.

Although I am a work in progress, I like to see myself as someone who posses the following five habits of highly successful women.

None of us is perfect and never will be. I am still growing and learning; so are you right?
Do you see any or all of these traits in yourself? Keep reading and let’s see.

Habit #1 They Have A Big Heart

One of the habits of successful women is having a big heart. Successful women give back to people and do so willingly. They lift people up because they know they can rise to the top without pushing other women down to get there.

I love seeing women supporting each other. Too often we see women tearing each other down, gossiping about one another, making one another feel “less than”. What is there to gain? Nothing.

Some women thrive on the drama because it makes them feel better about themselves.

When you judge others and hurt them, it really is about you and your character as a person, less about the person you are doing harm to.

Show off your big heart, let people see the good in you.

Habit #2 They Carry Themselves Well

The most obvious habits of highly successful women are clear in the way they carry themselves.
Not only by being well put together on the outside in the way the look or dress, but also on the inside.

Fat, thin, tall short, black, white, yellow or green, they exude confidence.
You will notice that successful women know what they want and can communicate what they want and need in a clear manner. Having confidence is a skill I am still learning.

Successful women are not worried nor affected to what others say about them. To be your best, you have to feel good about yourself. How you feel on the inside will show on the outside.

Habit #3 They Are Well Balanced

Now, I don’t mean she can remain upright and steady, or distribute her weight evenly (even though she can, lol) I am talking about one of the habits of highly successful women is knowing work is not everything.

Being a successful woman does not mean you need to give up on your social life and personal life.

You can maintain a good balance between the two. It is all about setting priorities and obligations.

This is also very important for every woman who wants to succeed. Whether you own your own business, work for a company, or are a stay at home mom, you need to know how to organize yourself and find a balance in all you do.

We all have certain strengths and, the more you use them the easier it will be to find your balance.
We often focus on our weaknesses which highlight what we do wrong.

Yuck – stop it. This will only point out your imperfections.

You possess certain strengths and, the more you use them, the more you will find your balance. Success can only be enjoyed if you are healthy in mind, body and spirit.

Habit #4 They Define Success On Their Own Terms

For me, success is a never ending journey. Therefore it has to be defined on my own terms. I cannot feel happiness and satisfaction if my definition of success is what others think it should be.

Do you define your success by the stereotypical definition society and social media offers us? Power, money and material items?

I don’t believe that there is one sole definition, so each and every one of us can live out our unique life’s purpose.

This is why one of the habits of highly successful women is being able to define success on your own terms.

Habit #5 They Are Able To Move Through Obstacles

This one is my favourite.

In life, obstacles come our way of course when we least expect them to.

They show up and try to stop us from achieving our goals and successes.
Being able to move through these obstacles is one of the strongest habits of highly successful women.

Have you ever had an obstacle set in your way that has made you give up and stopped you from doing something you were genuinely excited or passionate about?

Felt there was no way around it or through it?

Do any of these obstacles stop you from getting the most out of life?

  • Procrastination
  • Perfectionism
  • Negative self-talk
  • Time constraints
  • Lack of patience
  • Lack of discipline
  • Lack of inspiration
  • Fear of change
  • Fear of failure

If you said yes to any of these, then you need to take control of your situation.

Speak positive affirmations to yourself and set realistic and achievable goals for yourself.

Stop learning and start doing and watch things fall into place for you.

A zen proverb states “the obstacle is the path”.

My interpretation of this quote is that often the very thing that initially limits us will be the same thing that will help us to find a better way to do things. Let your obstacles be your teachers.

Trust yourself more and allow obstacles to challenge you to grow, change and adapt.

In order to possess and maintain any or all of these five amazing habits of highly successful women, you must be unstoppable.

Never let anyone get the way of all the things you have worked so hard for.

When you are knocked down? Bounce back. Need help? Ask for it.
Push forward even when all odds are against you. Be resilient.

Love endlessly and show appreciation to those around you.

Respect yourself. Be humble. And never ever let others define you.

  4. this was a warm and thought provoking post. it is actually in small little things that make your personality audible basically lending a voice to your overall persona, after all it is not the tags that remain with these people who are successful, for example xyz is not known because she is a manager rather she is a gentle or a kind or approachable manager that makes her popular among coworkers, so yes the #1 point big heart, deserved to be on top

  5. This is awesome! I struggle with some of this sometimes.

  6. #4 is most key for me. Sometimes I compare myself to others and think I’m not doing as well as them—but that’s based on THEIR success, not necessarily mine. When I think of what I value, I’m KILLING IT! 😉

  7. I’m also a work in progress when it comes to these 5 points. Also, I’m a strict perfectionist, so that doesn’t help at all. I am my worst critic. I don’t think I’ll ever just be happy with where I’m at. Always striving for something.

  8. A thought provoking post, this. What one sees on the outside is not always what happens on the inside though. I wonder how people see me… 🙂

  9. You’re so right. I read through your list and applied it to successful women who I am close to and you’ve hit the nail on the head. Oh and perfectionism is standing in my way……!

  10. Your post is right on, Sheri! Agree with everything you have said, especially defining success in ones own terms as it can mean different things to different people.

  11. Sure! It definetly builds your self esteem if you have success…And with the self esteem leads to success… you just need to start at one of these two…

    Posted on March 28, 2017 at 13:45
  14. Yes! I was so looking forward to reading this post after you commented on my post about success a few days ago and said you had written a post on this subject too! I love that first point about being kind and having a big heart! It’s true, you can be successful by just hard work and by defeating the competition BUT by working hard and being kind and not stepping on anyone to gain your success you gain more because you have people along the way to your success who support you and care about you and want to stick by you.

  15. Great tips!! I completely agree!! Balance is everything and taking the time to figure out what is worth your time to balance.

      Posted on March 28, 2017 at 11:26

  19. so much yes to all of this! I love the zen proverb you chose to include. It rings so true to my experience. I had a bad habit of giving up when I hit an obstacle before changing my mindset to beginning to use obstacles as learning experiences. It made a world of difference in my life in general.

    Posted on March 28, 2017 at 01:05

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 21:50
  22. I definitely can identify with these habits. But at the same time I think perfectionism and procrastination hold me back from meeting my potential on some projects.

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 19:22
  23. I like that your habits mentioned here are quite different. I think I possess some of these traits but I’m definitely a work in progress. This was a really nice post.

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 17:16
  24. Defining success in your own terms is a good point. What I deem to be successful might differ from other person’s definition. Success is personal

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 14:58
  25. Defining success on your own terms- and having a big heart, I think these are important qualities. We become more successful when we lift each other up, if only we realize that there is enough potential for us to grow together!

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 11:48
  26. 5 is probably the most challenging and amazing points. I love powerful women who have oovercome the steepest of odds to become successes!

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 10:24
  27. You’re so right about successful women being empathetic and having a big heart – I honestly think compassion is essential if you ever want to make it in this world!

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 08:26
  28. This was such a good read. It kind of reminded me of #GirlBoss – have you read this book? The definition of success varies per individual, but I think the goal and how to get there are pretty much the same. A grateful attitude, the right attitude, and good work ethic will always help us reach the top.

I do agree with you how perfectionism can be more of a road block. Because really, there’s no such thing as perfection.

  29. I love this post. This make me think of my mum. She was a successful teacher till she retired. She had her own school and was a teacher for 35 years. I feel very empowered by her. xx

  30. I think success means different things to each person, but you can’t let things hold you back from going after you want. Confidence and caring are important tools.

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 06:19
  31. I do need to take control and make sure my lack of confidence doesn’t hold me back x

  32. This is a great post and this will surely inspire many women. Specifically, I love the first habit – ‘having a big heart” . Having this habit will surely ripple into something great 🙂 Jojo Vito

  33. I love this post, it’s so empowering. The first one is so true, women who have big hearts are often the ones who become even more successful. We also have to have confidence even if things aren’t going our way.

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 02:18
  34. The definition of success varies from person to person. I feel that if someone is happy and truly satisfied with her work, she is successful. Like you said, successful women’s has a big heart and I totally agree with you that they are away from all the shallow streams of the materialism!

    Posted on March 27, 2017 at 00:11
  35. All of these are spot on about successful women. I’m surrounded by them and couldn’t agree more. They all seem to have an inner confidence that radiates.

    Posted on March 26, 2017 at 21:23
  36. Ugh I’m so guilty of procrastination but I’m trying to learn not to put things off. I love the idea that the most successful people can raise others up rather than put them down – I think thats such an admirable quality

    Posted on March 26, 2017 at 17:58
  37. Well put, I believe that success should not be about comparing yourself to others but determining what you see as success. I might not be successful financially but career wise when it comes to my blog I am doing pretty well x

    Posted on March 26, 2017 at 17:44
  38. This is a wonderful and realistic list of qualities to reach for. I do believe that being flexible and resilient in the face of obstacles is a very important point. Great points.
